Hosting a Q&A with British soul music legend Beverley Knight MBE at Shades of Beauty Live
I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Beverley Knight MBE immediately after her keynote talk at this year’s Shades of Beauty Live – and I can officially say she’s the sweetest human being ever. The British soul legend has been in the game for over TWENTY years, achieving success in the charts as well as on the stage, playing Rachel Marron in the theatre adaptation of The Bodyguard.
She spoke about the struggles she faced being one of the few black women in music and how important it is to know your value and stand firm, especially in spaces where your value is often undermined or ignored. She also congratulated safe spaces, such as Shades of Beauty Live, which help women of colour recognise and embrace their internal and external beauty as well as challenge the stereotypical depictions the mainstream often portrays.
