ColorComm launches in London
When I visited New York last year, I came across a dope organisation with the mission to bring together women of colour in communications who were excelling in their field. Growing up, and especially manoeuvring corporate and public sector spaces, coming across someone who looked like me rarely-slash-never happened. While I got used to being the ‘only one in the room’, it was sometimes a lonely place. ColorComm set out to erase some of that by creating a community of women of colour in senior positions and connecting them online and physically so that they can mentor each other, collaborate professionally and build friendships. Founded by the lovely Lauren Wesley-Wilson, the community has VPs and Directors from a range of companies including – excuse me while I name drop for a second – HBO, Weber Shandwick, BET Networks, CBS Entertainment and Publicis Groups and Edelmen to name a few.
Roll on a year or so and I was excited to hear from Lauren about the launch of a London chapter and whether I would like to be a part of the hosting committee. Of course I said yes, anything that brings women together to empower and build relationships I am totally down for! The launch reception took place at St Martin’s Lane Hotel in London and was filled with brilliant women from the likes of Spotify, BuzzFeed, BBC, Channel 4, Telefonica and even representatives from Cannes Lion and the Jackson family . There was definitely a buzz in the air so I’ll be sure to keep you updated as the London plans roll out. In the meantime, you can read more about ColorComm here.
